Barcelona Airport Metro: Why T-casual Does Not Work
T-casual is not valid at Barcelona airport's L9 Sud metro stations. Compare the Airport Ticket and Hola Barcelona card, plus what to do at the exit.

No: a T-casual ticket is not valid for an L9 Sud metro journey to or from Barcelona-El Prat Airport's Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 stations. For a single metro airport transfer, use the Airport Ticket. If you also want unlimited public-transport journeys during a consecutive 24-, 48-, 72-, 96- or 120-hour period, the Hola Barcelona Travel Card includes the airport metro.
Which fare product works on the airport section?
| Product | Valid at Aeroport T1/T2 on L9 Sud? | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Airport Ticket | Yes | One metro journey between the airport and any metro station. |
| Hola Barcelona Travel Card | Yes | Airport metro plus unlimited public-transport journeys during the card's consecutive validity period. |
| T-casual | No | Do not use it for entry to or exit from the two airport metro stations. |
| Single ticket | No | It does not cover the airport metro exception. |
| T-grup | No | It does not cover the airport metro exception. |
| Event tickets, T-Escolar and the listed Montserrat products | No | Buy an Airport Ticket for the L9 Sud airport journey. |
The current TMB airport metro page lists T-casual, the ordinary single ticket, T-grup, event tickets, T-Escolar and the named Montserrat products as invalid for the airport. This exception is specifically about travel to or from Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2; it is why a product usable elsewhere on the network may fail at the airport gates.
A worked airport-to-city choice
Suppose you arrive at Aeroport T1, want to take L9 Sud into the metro network and do not need unlimited transport afterwards. The direct fit is the Airport Ticket: TMB describes it as a single metro ticket that covers travel from any metro station to the airport, or from the airport to any metro station.
Now suppose the same arrival begins several consecutive days of frequent public-transport use. A Hola Barcelona Travel Card may be the simpler product because TMB says it includes travel to and from the airport and unlimited public-transport journeys during its selected consecutive validity period. The evidence supplied for this decision does not include current prices, so compare live prices on TMB rather than choosing from an old fare quoted elsewhere.
What if you reach the airport exit with T-casual?
Do not try to force the gate or assume the T-casual journey will convert automatically. TMB's stated recovery step is to buy the Airport Ticket there and then so you can leave Aeroport T1 or Aeroport T2 station. The same instruction applies if you reach either airport station with another invalid product.
If your trip begins at the airport, decide on the airport-valid product before entering L9 Sud. If it ends there, check the product before the last journey rather than discovering the exception at the exit gate.
The useful answer
Choose the Airport Ticket for a one-off airport metro journey. Consider Hola Barcelona when its consecutive unlimited-travel period matches the rest of your itinerary. Keep T-casual for journeys where it is accepted, but not for the L9 Sud airport gates. For data after landing, you can separately review Spain eSIM plans; the fare decision and the connectivity decision do not change each other.
