A Naples Airport bus can take you to more than one useful “centre.” In the autumn travel season, the right Alibus stop depends on what you are doing next: a train from Napoli Centrale, a ferry from the port, or a hotel on a particular street. The operator's route runs from Capodichino Airport to Piazza Garibaldi and then to port stops including Immacolatella/Porta di Massa and Molo Angioino/Beverello. Calling all of those “downtown” hides the decision that matters when you are tired and carrying luggage. Write down your onward station or quay before you board.

Match the stop to the onward ticket

If your onward ticket says Napoli Centrale, the usual Alibus stop to examine is Piazza Garibaldi. Trenitalia's Air&Port Link guide identifies the airport and port connections through Napoli Centrale. The ANM timetable and route page gives approximately 15 minutes from the airport to Piazza Garibaldi in normal conditions. That is a bus-ride estimate, not a complete transfer time from aircraft door to train platform. You still need to find the correct train entrance and platform, allow for ticket checks, and account for traffic. When your rail departure is tight, calculate from the flight's realistic exit time rather than adding only fifteen minutes to its scheduled landing.

If your onward booking is for a ferry, read the terminal name carefully. The same airport page lists Immacolatella/Porta di Massa inside the port and Molo Angioino/Beverello at Stazione Marittima. Those are distinct stops for different parts of the waterfront. A ferry confirmation may specify Porta di Massa, Molo Beverello or another quay; the general word “Naples port” is insufficient. Use the precise boarding address supplied by the ferry operator and compare it with the Alibus stop list. Walking between port areas can cost valuable boarding time, especially with luggage, so do not choose a stop simply because it appears first in an app search.

If your destination is a city hotel, neither “Central Station” nor “port” automatically means the hotel is close. Pin the hotel entrance, then compare the walk from each Alibus stop and any local transfer. A hotel in the historical centre may need another bus, metro ride or taxi after Alibus. A hotel near the rail station may be an easy walk from Piazza Garibaldi. The stop decision should be driven by the street address and walking conditions, not a broad neighbourhood label.

The route has direction-specific details

ANM's Alibus operator page distinguishes the outbound route from the port-to-airport return. From the airport it lists Piazza Garibaldi, Immacolatella/Porta di Massa and Molo Angioino/Beverello. Returning from the port, it also lists Varco Pisacane before reaching Piazza Garibaldi and the airport. A stop you notice on the return map is therefore not necessarily an airport-to-port boarding or alighting point in the same sequence. Recheck the correct direction when planning the journey home.

The airport gives roughly 35 minutes between the airport and port. ANM publishes a similar city-centre/port breakdown and a maximum-frequency indication on its Alibus page. Treat these as operational guidance rather than an appointment. Road conditions, a queue to board, and walking within the port can change the actual time. For a booked train or ferry, the practical deadline is the operator's boarding cut-off, which may precede the departure time. Get that cut-off from your actual booking terms; this article cannot infer it for every carrier.

Understand the special Alibus ticket

ANM lists the Alibus single ticket at €5 for one ride, approximately US$5.59 using the 26 October 2026 ECB reference rate reported by the Central Bank of Malta. The dollar figure is indicative and excludes card conversion costs. It also describes an integrated Alibus ticket at €5 with 90 minutes from first validation for an Alibus journey and other urban-area transport. The important distinction is between a valid Alibus product and an ordinary urban fare. ANM explicitly says regular urban and regional passes, and ARTECARD, do not entitle you to ride Alibus. If you already bought a general Naples ticket for sightseeing, inspect its conditions before assuming it covers the airport bus. The word “integrated” on the Alibus product does not make all other tickets valid in the reverse direction.

ANM says tickets can be obtained through its listed apps, ticket machines at arrivals, authorised resellers, and on board from the driver; it also describes contactless Tap&Go for the service. The ANM page specifically notes ticket machines at the exit from arrivals. Check the currently offered ticket type and the payment method before joining the bus queue. The operator instructs riders to validate a ticket on boarding and keep it until they leave the bus. That small step matters after a long flight: a ticket sitting in your pocket may not be a valid ride if it required validation.

For a family or group, make sure every passenger has a valid ticket. An integrated ticket's time window should be read from the first validation, so do not buy it expecting an unlimited day of local travel. If you will transfer to another ANM service, confirm the relevant service is in the urban area and that your remaining time is enough. If your next transport is a national train or ferry, the Alibus ticket does not replace that separate booking. Keep each leg's ticket accessible.

Time your arrival honestly

The ANM operator page currently lists the first airport departure at 05:30 and the last at 00:00; it notes seasonal and operational timetable details. This makes Alibus a useful option for many arrivals, but it does not make it a 24-hour service. A flight scheduled at 23:20 is not proof that you can board the final bus. Immigration, baggage reclaim and the walk to the stop may use the remaining time. Verify the day's departure and have a fallback if you are near the edge of service.

A licensed taxi can be useful for an address far from the bus stops, heavy luggage or a missed last departure. Ask at the official taxi stand for the current posted tariff for your exact destination before agreeing to a ride. A “fixed fare to Naples” is too vague to substitute for the destination-specific tariff. This article does not quote a taxi price because the applicable route and conditions depend on the destination.

Two worked connection plans

Onward train: Imagine your flight arrives in time for an evening train from Napoli Centrale. Your first decision is whether the time between leaving arrivals and the train's boarding cut-off is large enough to absorb a bus wait, approximately fifteen minutes of riding, and the walk to the platform. If it is, buy and validate an Alibus ticket and leave at Piazza Garibaldi. If the margin is small, consider a later train or another transport option rather than treating the bus estimate as guaranteed. The rail ticket's train number and terminal station provide the actual decision data.

Island ferry: Suppose a booking names Molo Beverello. Stay on Alibus past Piazza Garibaldi and verify that the destination is Molo Angioino/Beverello. If the booking instead names Porta di Massa, use the corresponding earlier port stop. Read the ferry operator's check-in deadline and terminal map before leaving the airport. Do not use the airport-to-port riding estimate as the entire connection allowance. If the ferry is the last one that day, a realistic reserve matters more than the cheapest surface transport.

Carry the information you will need

A working data connection makes it easier to reopen the bus route, train platform or ferry terminal details. Before departure, save your onward ticket, hotel address and operator maps for offline access. If you want a travel eSIM, confirm your phone is compatible and unlocked, then inspect a destination plan for validity, data allowance and any hotspot need. Roameo resells connectivity and cannot promise a particular signal or speed at the airport or port. The plan is useful support for wayfinding, not a substitute for a downloaded booking or sufficient connection time.

Before travelling, revisit the airport and ANM pages because fares, stops and schedules may change. The practical rule remains stable: identify the exact onward terminal first, then pick the Alibus stop and ticket that actually serve it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I leave Alibus at Garibaldi for a ferry?

Usually not if your ferry booking names a port terminal served by the bus. Compare the booking's precise quay with Porta di Massa and Molo Beverello before selecting the stop.

Does an ordinary Naples city pass cover Alibus?

ANM says ordinary urban and regional passes and ARTECARD are not valid on Alibus. Obtain a ticket specifically valid for the airport service.

Is the 15-minute station ride a safe train connection allowance?

No. It is an approximate in-vehicle time. Add airport exit, bus wait, traffic, station navigation and your train's boarding requirements.
