No: a Statue of Liberty Crown Reserve ticket does not reserve a particular ferry departure. The time printed on it is when you may join the security-screening queue. It is not a ferry departure time and it is not your crown-entry time. The National Park Service crown page also identifies Statue City Cruises as the only authorized ferry service for ticket sales and transportation to Liberty and Ellis Islands.

Book the correct product from the authorized seller

Crown access is limited and must be reserved before the visit. NPS advises on its crown mobility page that tickets may need to be purchased four to six months ahead, depending on the time of year. Choose a product explicitly labelled Crown Reserve through Statue City Cruises; general admission does not include the inside of the statue.

The current NPS fee page, last updated 2 March 2026, separates the required ferry transportation charge from park admission. NPS charges no entrance fee for Liberty Island or Ellis Island, but every island visitor needs the authorized ferry ticket. America the Beautiful passes and fee-free days do not cover that transportation charge.

Who can actually use Crown Reserve?

The operator's current Crown Reserve details list every condition that can change the answer:

  • The climb has 377 total steps, including 162 narrow steps from the pedestal to the crown, with no elevator from the pedestal to the crown platform.
  • A child must be at least 42 inches (107 cm) tall and able to climb the stairs independently. Meeting an age price band is not enough.
  • All minors must be accompanied by an adult, with one adult required for every four children.
  • NPS recommends that visitors have no significant physical or mental condition that would impair the climb. Its examples include heart or respiratory conditions, mobility impairment, claustrophobia, acrophobia and vertigo.
  • Visits inside the crown are limited to 10 minutes.
  • The operator allows only four crown tickets per household or credit-card holder, and only one crown reservation in a six-month period. Names cannot be changed or transferred.

Do not decide from the child age column alone. Height, independent stair climbing, adult accompaniment and the one-adult-per-four-children ratio all control crown access.

The day-of sequence

  1. Go to the departure point named in your booking. Crown holders departing New York check in at Castle Clinton; New Jersey departures check in at the Liberty State Park ticket office.
  2. Collect tickets and crown wristbands before security. All crown visitors must be present. The credit-card holder must be present, and matching photo ID is required except for minors without ID.
  3. Reach the departure site early. The operator says to arrive at least 30 minutes before the printed security time.
  4. Join screening at the printed time. That time controls access to the security queue; it does not promise a ferry departure.
  5. Allow the queue and boarding to run long. NPS and the operator warn that security screening and ferry boarding can take more than one hour during peak seasons, holidays and other busy periods.
  6. After reaching Liberty Island, complete the second security process. Crown access is inside the monument, not at the ferry screening point.

A worked timing example

If the ticket shows 10:00, plan to be at the correct ticket office by 09:30 with the purchaser, all crown visitors and the required IDs. Collect the named tickets and wristbands before security. At 10:00 you may enter the screening queue; you do not have a guaranteed 10:00 ferry. In a peak period, screening and boarding can run beyond 11:00, so do not place a tightly timed activity after an assumed departure.

The ferry fare is transportation, the printed time is security access, and crown entry happens later on Liberty Island. Keeping those three stages separate is the simplest way to avoid missing access despite holding the right ticket.

What may go up to the crown

Bags, backpacks, food, drinks other than water in a plastic bottle, and strollers are not permitted inside the monument. The operator says self-service lockers near the monument entrance on Liberty Island require a US$0.25 quarter. For the crown itself, the permitted carry list is water in a plastic bottle, a phone, a camera and necessary medicine.

In short: reserve Crown Reserve well ahead through Statue City Cruises, verify every climber against the physical and supervision rules, collect wristbands in person, and treat the printed time as the start of security rather than a ferry reservation.
