How to enter travel eSIM details manually on iPhone
A QR image is not the only supported installation route on iPhone. If the provider supplies manual details, you can enter them from Settings while connected to Wi-Fi or a hotspot.
Manual installation
Get exact details
Use the activation information from the provider for this order.
Open Add eSIM
In Cellular or Mobile Data settings, choose the manual entry option.
Verify the line
Label it, check the plan and keep the receipt available.
Confirm you have the right information
Open the provider's original activation email or account page on a trusted connection. Some providers supply an SM-DP+ address and activation code; others only issue a QR or carrier link. Do not try to invent manual details by copying text from a screenshot or another customer's guide. Make sure the iPhone supports eSIM and is unlocked for another carrier. If the order has already been installed, adding it again may fail because activation credentials can be single-use.
Use Apple's manual path
Apple's current instructions place manual entry under Settings, Cellular or Mobile Data, Add eSIM or Add Mobile Plan, then Enter Details Manually. The labels can differ by iOS version and region. Keep Wi-Fi or a hotspot connected while the phone downloads the profile, and enter the provider's details exactly, including any confirmation code if requested. Do not paste extra spaces. Wait for the new line to appear in cellular settings before changing your preferred data line.
Give the line a descriptive label such as the destination and trip month. Check that the home line remains available if you need its calls or texts. Installing a profile does not prove that a foreign network will connect at home; that is usually normal. Check the plan's rule for when its paid validity begins before turning on data roaming or testing through a supported network.
| Item | Get it from | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Activation details | Original provider order | They belong to this eSIM. |
| Wi-Fi or hotspot | Trusted connection | It works during profile download. |
| Phone compatibility | Phone settings and provider | eSIM support and unlocked status. |
| Error message | iPhone screen | Save exact wording for support. |
When manual entry fails
Stop after a clear activation error and capture its wording. Confirm you are entering the code for the correct order, that the phone has a stable connection and that the provider has enabled manual installation for that product. Do not delete a working eSIM or factory-reset the phone to troubleshoot a new purchase. Send the order reference, device model and exact error to the provider; they can confirm whether the code is still valid or issue the supported alternative.
