Travel eSIM says No Service after landing: a step-by-step fix
No Service means the phone has not registered that line on a usable network. Work from simple checks to provider support. Keep the eSIM profile installed while you identify whether the problem is coverage, settings or activation.
Check in this order
Confirm the place
Is the current country and airport included in the plan?
Confirm the line
Is the travel eSIM enabled and selected as intended?
Retry registration
Use automatic network selection and one airplane-mode cycle.
Start with location and plan status
Check the plan's exact country list. A regional name may not include every transit country or island. If you landed in a connection airport outside coverage, No Service can be expected until the next stop. Check the provider account for the plan's activation and expiry status as well. A plan that expired overnight or has not been provisioned needs provider help, not a phone reset.
Move to a place with ordinary signal, such as an airport concourse rather than a basement or aircraft cabin. Compare whether the home line sees a network, but remember its partners may differ. If the entire airport has a temporary outage, a few minutes and airport Wi-Fi may be the only practical first steps. Keep offline directions available so you do not depend on the diagnosis before leaving.
Check the phone's line and network choices
Open Cellular or SIM settings and confirm the travel profile is turned on. Choose it for mobile data. If the provider instructs you to enable data roaming for this line, do so; that setting is separate from home-line roaming. Leave network selection on Automatic unless the provider specifically names a partner network to try. Toggle airplane mode once, wait for registration, then restart once if the phone still shows no carrier.
On a dual-SIM phone, the home line may show signal while the travel line says No Service. Read each line's status separately. If you recently changed the device, check that the QR was installed on this phone and that the phone is unlocked. Manufacturer instructions for iPhone, Pixel and Galaxy show the relevant SIM settings, but exact menu labels vary by software version.
| Finding | What it suggests | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Country absent from plan | No covered partner network. | Use Wi-Fi or a plan for that country. |
| Travel line disabled | Phone is not trying that profile. | Enable line and select data. |
| Automatic selection fails | Registration or provisioning issue. | Ask provider about partner network. |
| Bars appear after retry | Registration recovered. | Test Wi-Fi-off browsing. |
Escalate with the right details
If the plan covers your location, is valid and still cannot register, contact the eSIM provider on Wi-Fi. Give the order number, exact location, phone model, line status and network-selection result. Ask which partner network should appear and whether the profile is provisioned. A screenshot of settings can help, but keep the activation QR and EID private unless the provider asks through its official channel.
Do not delete the eSIM as a first repair. A one-use QR code may need reissue, and you can lose the only installed profile. If bars appear after a change but pages still fail, use bars but no internet. If the phone never shows the profile in settings, use stuck activating instead.
