Will resetting network settings delete your eSIM?
Phone reset menus contain similarly named actions with very different consequences. A network-settings reset can remove saved Wi-Fi and VPN settings; deleting eSIMs removes the profiles and can require provider reactivation.
Do not confuse these actions
Reset network settings
Restores connection settings and may remove saved Wi-Fi or VPN details.
Delete all eSIMs
Removes installed cellular profiles and can require new activation.
Factory erase
Clears broader phone content; eSIM handling depends on the option chosen.
Try less disruptive checks first
Confirm the eSIM is on, the correct data line is selected, the plan covers your location and the provider balance remains usable. Check the travel line's roaming instruction and try airplane mode once. A reset does not solve an expired package, unsupported country or locked phone. Save your Wi-Fi password, VPN configuration and order details before making any network change. If a company manages the device, ask IT before resetting managed networking.
Read the reset menu closely
Apple lists Reset Network Settings separately from Delete All eSIMs. The network reset removes network settings, previously used networks and some VPN details; data roaming may be turned off afterward. Delete All eSIMs removes profiles and may leave the phone needing a new carrier activation. Google Pixel has separate reset options for mobile network and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth; Google's guidance notes that resetting Wi-Fi removes saved connections. Menu names can change by software version, so follow the current device-maker instructions for the phone in your hand.
If support specifically directs a network reset, record working settings first, perform only the named reset and then restore the travel data line, required roaming setting and trusted Wi-Fi. Recheck VPN and corporate connectivity if relevant. Do not select factory erase or eSIM deletion as an approximation. Apple's eSIM guidance says not to erase a profile as a general troubleshooting step unless the provider directs it.
| Action | Likely effect | Use with care |
|---|---|---|
| Airplane-mode toggle | Fresh network registration | Low disruption. |
| Network reset | Saved network settings removed | Record Wi-Fi and VPN first. |
| Delete eSIMs | Profiles removed | Provider may need to reissue. |
| Factory erase | Broad device wipe | Back up and follow device guidance. |
Verify the result before more changes
Turn Wi-Fi off and test mobile data in a covered country. If the same fault remains, record that the reset did not help and send support the exact symptom. Repeating resets is unlikely to repair a provider-side activation or exhausted allowance. Keep the eSIM profile intact while the provider checks its status. When restoring the phone later, confirm the correct data line and roaming switches because the reset may have returned them to defaults.
