Accidentally deleted a travel eSIM? How to get connected again
A deleted eSIM profile may not be recoverable from the phone alone. First confirm that the line is really gone, then contact the provider with your order details before trying to reuse a QR code that may be single-use.
Recovery path
Check SIM settings
A disabled or unselected profile can be turned back on without reinstalling.
Find the order
Locate the receipt, plan name, QR delivery and support channel.
Ask for reissue
Provider confirms whether the existing code, transfer or replacement is supported.
Make sure it was deleted
Open the phone's Cellular or SIM manager screen and inspect every line. A profile can be present but switched off, assigned a confusing label or simply not selected for data. Turn it on and select it if you find it; then test with Wi-Fi off in a covered country. If the line is truly absent, check whether another device holds it, especially if you recently transferred phones.
If the profile still appears but says No Service, deletion is not the problem. Use the no-service guide instead. If the phone has bars but no browsing, check data settings. Avoid resetting the phone while searching for a profile; that can remove other settings and complicate recovery.
Contact the issuing provider
Find the original order number, plan name, purchase email and activation code delivery method. Contact the provider through its official app or website over Wi-Fi. State that the profile was deleted, the current device model, whether the plan has remaining validity and whether the QR was previously installed. Ask directly whether a replacement QR, transfer or refund is available under that plan's terms.
A QR code that worked once is not guaranteed to work again. Apple's and Google's setup instructions require carrier participation for many eSIM transfers or replacements. Try the original code only if the provider says it is reusable; repeated scans can obscure the real issue. Do not buy a duplicate plan until support clarifies the first order's status unless you need an immediate independent fallback.
| Finding | Best next action | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Line still in settings | Enable and select it. | Reinstalling unnecessarily. |
| Line on old device | Ask about transfer support. | Deleting old profile first. |
| Line truly gone | Request provider reissue or remedy. | Assuming old QR is reusable. |
| Immediate connection needed | Use Wi-Fi or an independent compatible plan. | Losing offline travel details. |
Stay functional while waiting
Use trusted airport or hotel Wi-Fi to retrieve directions and messages. Save your accommodation address and tickets for offline use. If travelling with someone, use their hotspot only with permission and an understanding of their allowance. If you need service urgently, compare an alternative eSIM or local SIM that your unlocked phone supports, and keep the original support case separate for a possible remedy.
Once a replacement is issued, install it on the intended phone over reliable Wi-Fi and label the line. Verify the plan's country, validity and data setting before leaving Wi-Fi. For future trips, turn a used line off rather than deleting it until you know that all data, refunds and transfer questions are settled. The safe-removal guide gives a decision checklist.
