eSIM QR code already used or invalid: can you install it again?
A QR code can fail because it has already installed a profile, was assigned to another device, expired or was entered incorrectly. Do not buy again or delete the existing profile until you check which case applies.
What happened to the code?
Profile on this phone
The code may have succeeded already; check the installed line's status.
Profile on old phone
Ask whether transfer or reissue is supported before removing it.
No profile anywhere
Contact the seller with order ID and exact error for a provisioning check.
Look for the installed profile first
Open Cellular or SIM settings and inspect all stored lines. A previous scan may have installed the profile even if the final screen looked incomplete. If you find it, enable and label it, then check the provider's activation instructions. No Service at home is not proof the QR failed if the plan covers only another country. Do not scan the same code repeatedly in an attempt to create a second copy.
If you scanned the QR on the wrong phone, check whether the profile exists there and do not delete it yet. Some carriers support eSIM transfer, but transfer depends on both provider and devices. Google's Pixel transfer guidance and Apple's eSIM setup instructions distinguish transfer methods from a fresh QR activation. A seller may need to issue a replacement code for a different device.
Check the original code and order
Use the original email or provider app rather than a forwarded or cropped image. Verify the order belongs to the plan and device you intend to use. A code may have an activation deadline or may be bound to an earlier order. If manual activation details were supplied, enter them exactly as written; do not guess at server addresses or confirmation codes.
Keep the code private. Anyone with a valid unused activation credential may be able to claim the profile, so avoid posting a screenshot while seeking help. If you suspect the code was exposed, contact the provider through its official support channel. Report the order number, the exact error text, phone model and whether any profile appears on either phone.
| Situation | Avoid | Do |
|---|---|---|
| Profile installed on current phone | Repeated scanning. | Use or troubleshoot the installed line. |
| Profile on another phone | Deleting before transfer advice. | Ask provider about transfer or reissue. |
| No visible profile | Posting QR publicly. | Give official support error and order ID. |
| Replacement issued | Using old code again. | Install the new code on intended phone. |
Get a supported replacement or transfer
Ask the provider whether the existing profile can be transferred, whether the activation can be reset, or whether a new QR code must be issued. Those are provider decisions; a phone settings trick cannot guarantee reuse. Keep the existing profile until they tell you what to do, especially if it still has remaining data. If the provider issues a new code, install it over stable Wi-Fi on the intended device.
After installation, label the line and perform a Wi-Fi-off data test when in a covered country. If the new profile installs but remains stuck, use the activation guide. If you removed the only profile already, the deleted-eSIM guide lists the details support will need.
